Naver Series

Naver Series is Naver's paid web novel and webtoon platform, known for asking 6,000+ characters per episode and its link to Naver Webtoon and search.

Also written as: naver series

Meaning

Naver Series is the paid web novel and webtoon platform operated by Naver. Naver Web Novel (serialization-focused) and Series (paid-reading-focused) are connected, and both link to Naver Webtoon and Naver search through the same account. Like KakaoPage, most works arrive under contract through publishers or management companies. What sets it apart is a practice in official serialization and contests of requiring 6,000 or more characters with spaces per episode, versus the roughly 5,000 elsewhere. It runs time-based free models such as "free at 10 daily" and cookie-based billing.

Why it matters

Naver Series and KakaoPage are the two pillars of Korean web novel revenue. The link to Naver search gives it strong search traffic, and the link to Naver Webtoon gives it an adaptation path. The important difference for writers is episode length. Write 6,000 characters for Naver and your episodes run long elsewhere; write 5,000 and they run short on Naver. If you have several platforms in mind, decide from the start which standard to follow. Naver Series likewise has no written platform-level AI rule as of 2026, but Naver Webtoon's contests explicitly ban AI-generated art, which is worth knowing if a webtoon adaptation is in your plans.

Example

Minjae measured the same manuscript against both standards.

Current average: 5,200 characters with spaces. KakaoPage practice (5,000–5,500): fits. Naver Series practice (6,000+): 800 short per episode.

Two options: pad each episode by 800 characters, or merge five episodes into four. He chose the latter. Each event ended naturally at 5,200, so padding weakened the endings. Instead he combined two episodes' events into one 6,500-character episode. The cut came out stronger.

Meeting a length standard is a matter of restructuring, not padding.

Common mistakes

  • Submitting 5,000-character episodes as they are. In Naver's official-serialization review, insufficient length is filtered out before content is read.
  • Confusing Naver Web Novel with Series. Know the relationship between the serialization space and the paid-reading space before submitting.
  • Not knowing the webtoon rules. Naver Webtoon's contests ban AI art. Keep that in mind when using AI for covers or storyboards intended for adaptation.
